Healthcare

Human health is a big concern in Africa with majority of the population unable to afford medical services. Healthcare sector in Africa needs a lot of work and improvement, governments and NGOs are constantly working round the clock to save lives. Without proper infrastructure, technology, finance, medical equipments, medicines, medical practitioners etc. Africa is still facing many challenges in this sector. Nigeria has the largest number of hospitals in Africa, followed by Congo, South Africa and Kenya. The upper class and the middle class can only afford modern health facilities the lower-working class cannot access hospitals or afford any kind of medicines. If foreign investors can embark on this opportunity and make healthcare available to all it will be the best advancement. While the government cannot provide for a good healthcare system due to the lack of funds, investors abroad are often approached for taking up this project. Another worry is the spread of many communicable diseases like AIDS, Ebola, malaria etc. and how curbing them takes time with shortage of vaccine and other irregularity in healthcare system. Corruption amongst medical staff and government officers, counterfeit drugs, sudden shift in medical needs similar to lifestyle diseases like cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular, more consumption of fast food and packaged food, increase in drinking habits and smoking are all one way or the other threats obstructing a strong healthcare sector in Africa.
