Education

Education is the strongest foundation laid for a promising future generation but unfortunately it is not very promising in Africa. Education is an investment on human capital, which gives you ample returns once you finish studies in the form of employment and entrepreneurship which in return benefit oneself, family, society and the nation in total. Education provides development for the society, economy, alleviates poverty and brings about change. When children are devoid access to education they invite poverty, abuse, exploitation, violence etc. upon them. About 60 percent of the children between the age of 15 and 17 are not in school. Girls show a tendency to stay out of school when compared to boys. According to a survey, nine million girls between the age of 6 and 11 have never gone to school at all compared to the boys which comprise six million. Shortage of trained teachers, lack of proper schools, study materials, books and are also a challenge the education system in Africa face. Most families cannot afford to send their kids to the school instead they become daily wage earners to support their parents. Africa sadly has the highest rate of adolescent pregnancy in the world causing many girls to drop out of school. The governments in Africa provide expectant and young mothers with many opportunities to get them involved in small skilled labour to make them independent strong working women. Mostly the girls in Africa are made to sit at home and help with the chores, look after the younger siblings, cook and clean such that girls are obstructed from gaining their primary education in school. The government schools in Africa offer free education but it lacks quality and reputation that most parents are forced to send their children to paid private schools. Most often, parents have to enroll their kids at private training courses and tuition centers because they lack the skill and knowledge to advance in their career or rather even gain a job opportunity.

Entrepreneurs can help set up high quality primary schools for kids who want a strong foundation with qualified and skilled tutors at an affordable low cost rate on a daily basis. Ghana has initiated this model of private schooling called Omega schools. Partnering with foreign universities to set up satellite campus and do online courses is also a business idea that can be adopted by many business entrepreneurs. Some of the other prospects put forth by business people are offering certified training for a profession via online at a promising university, polishing personality development courses, corporate - sponsored training for their staff alone, language training etc. Hence education is more of a social business than a personal gain which can impact millions of people, with the steady increase in population, businessmen and other investors are sure to benefit from the educational trade.
